REFLECTION

Experience

Typography is completely new to me. I had never heard of the subject before taking this module. At first, it felt quite difficult because I lacked background knowledge in typography and didn’t have a strong foundation in art. It took some time for me to understand the concepts and adjust to the learning process.

However, once I got on track and built a basic foundation, I was able to understand the key points more easily and gradually gained confidence. I’ve come to realize how valuable typography is for a design student like me. It taught me that design isn’t only about illustrations; typefaces also play an essential role in creating effective and meaningful designs.

Overall, I find this module fun and exciting to learn and explore. Of course, I faced challenges along the way, but those difficulties helped strengthen my problem-solving skills and resilience. Typography has trained me to pay close attention to details, and I truly appreciate how it has broadened my perspective on design.

Observations

After learning Typography, I began to notice type everywhere: on the road, in posters, on social media, and in almost anything that includes text. I now find myself exploring and examining typefaces in greater detail. My observation skills have improved significantly through this module; I’ve started paying attention to everything around me and learning from what I see.

I also realized that the feedback we receive from lecturers is incredibly important and valuable. It’s essential to learn from every piece of feedback and to accept it with an open mind. These insights help us grow stronger and guide us toward greater success.

I’ve also realized that this semester, though not particularly short or long, has been incredibly meaningful. Within these 14 weeks, I learned a lot from both my friends and Mr. Max. He has guided us patiently, step by step, and explained even the smallest details that we might have overlooked.

I believe Mr. Max’s attitude is something we can all learn from. He is responsible, dedicated, and always provides us with helpful advice on how to improve our work. His strong sense of responsibility and commitment is truly admirable, and it is a quality we should aim to develop in ourselves as well.

Findings

Typography is not just about representing a type; it also carries numerous nuances behind every letter. It makes me pay attention to each character and encourages me to explore and understand the subtle details or stories behind their forms. In the past, I would simply look at type as plain text and information, assuming there was nothing special about it. However, now I see design within every letter. I find myself wanting to explore why certain typefaces are chosen and what inspiration lies behind those choices.

Overall, I am quite satisfied with the effort I put into this module. I completed all the tasks on time and did my best to make them as good as possible. I would never claim that my work is the most outstanding or perfect in the class, but I am proud that I invested my time and effort into every project. This shows that I am accountable to myself. The most meaningful part is that I learned so much from the work I produced and from the module as a whole. I am grateful to myself for being responsible and committed to completing every task.

Lastly, one important thing I learned this semester is confidence—the confidence to trust my own design decisions. Confidence plays an important role in shaping who we are as designers. Only when we believe in ourselves can we create work that truly represents us.
